ISF

. . . rankings should be here too . . .

. . .

Snowboarding became an Olympic sport in 1998 by decision of the IOC in 1995.

Olympic snowboarding disciplines (Boardercross since 2006) . . .

1998 GS + HP | 2002 PGS + HP | 2006 PGS + SBX + HP

2010 PGS + SBX + HP

ISF = International Snowboard Federation (1990 - 2002)

In earlier times the ISF organized top level snowboarding competitions on an international scale. On the ISF tour the riders were organized as teams of sponsoring snowboard brands rather than as national teams.

In the later 90s the ISF began to lose power to the FIS and eventually went bankrupt in 2002. One of the reasons was a controversial decision of the International Olympic Committee in 1995 that didn't recognize the ISF at all but required riders to get FIS results in order to qualify for Olympic Games.

After the downfall of the ISF the cooperating organizations WSF (World Snowboard Federation) and TTR (Ticket To Ride) were founded in 2002 to organize (only freestyle) competitions.

FIS = Fédération Internationale de Ski (1995 - Present)

The International Ski Federation was founded in 1924 and started to organize snowboarding competitions in 1995.

Currently the FIS is the only organization in charge of a snowboarder's qualification for Olympic Games and of top level alpine snowboarding competitions on an international scale.

PSL = Parallel Slalom | PGS = Parallel Giant Slalom | SBX = Snowboardcross

(HP = Half Pipe | BA = Big Air | SBS = Slopestyle) | GS = Giant Slalom

(Boardercross is another common expression for Snowboardcross)
